Winner of the 2010 Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands will open for top-name musical act at Summerfest in June
MILWAUKEE, Wis., - Briggs & Stratton, a Milwaukee-based manufacturer of aircooled engines for outdoor power equipment, and Summerfest, recognized as the World’s Largest Music Festival, today announced that entries for the second annual Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands competition are now being accepted at www.briggsbattleofthebands.com. The grand-prize winning band will have the opportunity to open for a top headlining musical act at Summerfest on the Briggs & Stratton Big Backyard stage on June 26th, 2010.
Last year, the contest generated more than 770 entries from around the world and prompted fans to cast more than 850,000 online votes for the bands on MySpace.
“As a manufacturer of quality products used worldwide, we can relate to bands working to stand out from the competition,” said Todd Teske, President and CEO of Briggs & Stratton, whose company sponsors the battle of the bands and a music stage at Summerfest. “Our Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands allows these talented and rising stars a unique opportunity to be heard and it helps to raise awareness of our brand to potential consumers.”
Last year’s winner, The Run Around, a college rock band from Illinois, opened for the popular rock band Blues Traveler. The Run Around members met the band and received redcarpet treatment throughout their Summerfest experience including participating in a press tour, staying in a luxury hotel, receiving a concert-quality DVD of their performance, being transported in a limousine and more. Since the contest, the band has also entertained fans at an NBA game, sang the National Anthem at a Major League Baseball game and is being featured in a series of videos promoting this year’s contest.
“No matter what type of music or where in the world someone performs it, they’ll find an opportunity in the Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands. It’s a great online, fan-voted contest that offers up-and-coming bands a unique chance to play at Summerfest, the World’s Largest Music Festival,” said Don Smiley, President and CEO of Summerfest. “Every summer, hundreds of thousands of fans journey to Milwaukee to see and hear some of the hottest music stars on the planet and discover new and emerging stars like the Briggs & Stratton Battle of the Bands winner.”
Bands entering the contest must upload their music to www.briggsbattleofthebands.com by April 16, at 11:59 p.m. Fans are also encouraged to vote for their favorite band on the site. The top 10 bands selected by online voters will then be announced. A selection committee then determines three finalists by May 7. Fans will then vote for a winner, who will be announced on May 25. Entry into the contest is free and additional rules/regulations are also posted online.
